Back pressure is again the key.

Well I just un bolted the clamp right after the factory y pipe and took the muffler and extra pipe off. Sounds good I kind of hoped it was gonna be louder but this way If I don't like it I can just bolt it back up.

NO just cutting the muffler off will not damage the engine both of my trucks have had no mufflers and my old one has no cats. your motor will be fine don't care what anyone says. just cut out your muffler and stick a y pipe in its place it sounds good not like you just hacked off the muffler it will have more tone

I dont know why ppl still do this, todays cars are not restricted with cats like they where 20+ yrs ago, you'll actually lose power by removing them.
Sorry man I hate getting stuck behind people that have no cats, the smell is unbearable!

You're not for real, are you?

Removing the cats will not fry the sensors. Yes, it will throw codes. You can disable the rear o2's with a hand held tuner. The lack of a pipe that close to the motor won't **** up the engine provided that the engine makes the necessary adjustments.

Back pressure is not needed, a modern vehicle should be able to adjust its fuel curve to compensate. Back pressure was needed on carb'd vehicles. A modern EFI motor can be tuned to run straight pipe/no cats and will not damage the motor.

However, I would not advocate removing the cats as loud obnoxious trucks/cars is retarded. They generally sound like crap and disturb my peace.

I wouldn't take the cats off just for sound purposes...take the muffler out and replace it with straight pipe or a glasspack. Dump it in front of the tire. Can be done with hacksaw and exhaust clamps. Pretty quiet idle, loud and raw as hell wide open. Been running like this for nearly a year...its a little too loud and raw for my tastes, but not bad enough to change it right now.

Oh, yeah if you are hell bent ok removing the cats, just replace them with some summit racing high flow cats..it won't be worth it unless you are doing some major forced induction or some all-motor mods.
