Default Air conditioning question

Now that I have a truck that has working air conditioning I have noticed something. When the truck is sitting still or just crusing down the road the ac works ok cool (not freezin just cool) air. If I accelerate to pass someone or merge it then starts blowing warm air untill I leave off the throttle and normalize back to cruise. Is this normal?

Thanks

Does anyone know what the dealer would charge for something like this? Or should I just take it to my usual ac/heating guy? Is a ac compressor a warrenty item?

depends, did you just buy it? i would take it there just to see whats up, i have coaxed my dealer to give me a discount on things that needed repairing after the warranty expired...it's worth a shot..usually recharging a working system is less than 100 bucks, but if you got no warranty...it could me as much as a grand...it all depends on what is wrong, i have seen some where a 7 dollar copper washer (copper washer with rubber o-ring built in) was leaking, drained out all the refrigerant and just needed a new washer and recharged and was good to go..so it's all depends

Ok, hold on a sec, don't go running to the stealer just yet! Does your A/C work fine in normal driving conditions, and then just seems to "turn off" when you press hard on the accelerator, such as to merge or pass? If that is the case, it sounds to me like your system is working just fine, as that's exactly what mine does.

As I understand it, Ford has had an "interupter" in the A/C system on many of their vehicles since at least the late 90s. The way it works is that when the A/C system is engaged and you're driving normally (ie, light on the throttle cruising or gradually accelerating), the A/C system stays engaged. However, when you go full throttle, or at least nearly full throttle, the computer automatically disengages the A/C compressor to give you max power, and will keep the compressor disengaged until you've let up on the throttle. This is just an automatic system for doing what people used to do, manually turn off the A/C compressor when they needed full power, since the compressor is just parasitic drag on the drivetrain.

Now, I don't know how extensive this system is, but I do know that my family has had the following Ford's that all had this auto A/C disengage 'feature': 98 Escort, 02 Focus ZTS, 02 ZX2, 03 ZX2, 06 Focus SES, and 08 F-150 XL V6. I used to regularly drive an 06 F-150 XLT 5.4L 4x4 for work, and I've driven an 03 Explorer 4.0L V6, both of which would do the same thing under full throttle.

My experience leads me to believe that this feature is pretty widespread throughout the Ford line. Perhaps I'm wrong, but what you describe sounds like normal behavior.

Auctualy he did describe my issue, I know after 2 years the r-32 or 12 whatever is in there may need topped off so no biggie. But what nagata descirbed is what is happening to my truck. Yes I did just get the truck used it is a 07 with almost 20K and I did get a extended warrenty. Picked up the truck about a month ago.

I know the air may not be as cool as I would like it to be, but I am so used to not having a vehicle with ac I still find myself not using it.

Thank you for all the input guys.
