Default Advice for purchase

I'm looking to buy a F150 4x4, Lariat or FX4, 2004-2008, in the next few months. Is anyone aware of any reliability issue differences between these five years of F150? In other words, was the 2004 just as good as the 2008?

check to make sure the spark plugs have been changed in the 04-06 models as they like to break and cost up to $1500 bucks.

obviously like any other the last year or two of a body style is usually the best... cam phasers issues in 04-some 06, some 07's? loud injectors in all years, um, i dont have much help cause i have an 08 so im the clear on most of the common issues being resolved by 08 models! mwahahahaha(evil laugh) just kidding, im sure more knowledgeable guys will chime in on this... good luck on getting an f150!

I would go with late 07 and newer. 05 had injector issues and 04- early 07 have the plug problem. What other other problem do these have...oh yeah faulty fuel pump control module, window regulators/motor suck, cam phasers.

I have a 04. No problems at all. Got used at 40,000 miles. Now have 90,000 miles. Routine maintenance does a lot. I love mine.

I sure appreciate the info. It is nice to be able to get some real advice from the people who know these trucks. I'll probably just keep hitting you with questions until I get the truck!
I was wondering about the auto transmissions in these models; when do they generally need to be replaced? In know in some of the older domestic pickups, they didn't seem to last more than 90,000 or so.
Thanks again

So far so good with mine. However, this largely depends on maintenance and just what the truck has been and will be used for. You can't control what the previous owner did to the truck, but that's the gamble you take when you buy used. If you operate within the limits of the truck and generally do not treat it like a superduty, the tranny aught to be fine.

I've got an 04 lariat that has 133000 miles and i have had no cam phaser issues, no loud injectors, no spark plug problems. The only problem i had was i had to replace the power steering pump. Other than that my truck has been perfect
