Default Add a leaf-pics

I want to put an Add a Leaf on my truck. It is a 2006-fx4 crew cab. Has anyone done it before and how hard is it to do. Also if anyone has pictures I would like to see what it would look like. I only want to do about 1-2 inch in lift. Also I am going to put a 2.5-inch leveling kit on the front. Also the truck has over 100,000 miles on it and I want to replace the rear shocks on it while. Do i have to get a longer shock for the add a leaf?

Thanks

Barn hill- you won't regret the AAL. It not only adds height but functionality to the truck. I have a '05 KR with a 2.5" level and rough country AAL in the tears with new 2.2 shocks. The shocks aren't necessarily needed, but since I was working back there, another $100 to replace 10 year old shocks seemed the right choice. With this kit I still have a slight rake, so the single AAL will add roughly 2-3" of lift to the rear, plus an additional 700-900 lbs carrying capacity.

I was wondering if the AAL will increase the stiffness of the ride. I've heard the shorter leaf will and the longer leaf won't. Any intel on that? I was just discussing this with a buddy of mine.

I have the "shorter" leaf spring, personally. IMHO, yes, it does stiffen the ride, but not considerably. With the new shocks I would say it is close to a stock ride...just a little higher. I think once you put weight on it, you wouldn't be able to tell anyway. Just my $.02.

If I was you, I would take a look at air bags instead of an AAL. The benefits are great. You keep them at 5 PSI when unloaded for a smoother ride than an AAL, and pump them up when you need to haul a heavy load. My airbags probably lift the rear 1" or 1.25" when at 12 PSI (which I usually have them set to for normal driving), and it probably lifts the rear 2.5-3" when at 50-65 PSI (when I pick up a load of dirt, my camper, etc.).

I did mine in an afternoon. Jack up the truck, take wheels off, open spring pack, place new spring, reinstall everything. Used Rough Country springs and got 2" of lift in the rear for $100. Way cheaper and easier than air bags, didn't notice any difference in the ride.

Why does that sound so easy?

Because it is easy. The hardest part was knocking out the old spring centering pin.
