if all this talk about resetting the computer/re-tuneing after an intake and or exhaust mod is true... then what is the cheapest way to "re-calibrate" my truck when im all done playing with the air goin in and out of my engine??
"resetting" the PCM will NOT reflash it to work with new stuff. get an xcal3.
just some food for the brain regarding purchasing a used flash tuner. If the seller did NOT unlock it, you might end up spending 275-300 for a tuner, 100 for three tunes which is about the going rate, AND whatever they charge for clearing the tuner. Now, when you do, make sure you get copies of the files emailed to you and download livelink from SCT's website. I say this because its good to have a copy of the tunes. I did not, I ordered mine stuff from Starkey@vmptuning.com, but forgot to have him email the files. Well, fast forward a few years later, some oxygen thief steals my truck and cleans out everything of value, including my Xcal3.
maybe you are missing something here, remember that part about saying that reflashing a mustang to account for a new intake results in about 30ish hp? And that part about you saying that it is hard to believe because of what people say? whoever those "people" are.....
your question was answered by a microcosm of a certain percentage of members on this forum who gained all their knowledge because some dude who knows a dude says it work.
There are two versions:
1. Dealership flash....from a TSB, customer complaint, etc....
2. Some whackjob "smack the throttle down 3 times" and its all good......right....
3. Buying an Xcal3 that was programmed to work with taller tires, different gears, and some whiz bang intake, to avert a lean condition.
