I hit a lady a few months ago. She had a little dent. I told her I would pay to get it fixed, she said no, she wanted my insurance info. So I gave it to her and all. I even told her I would give her 500 bucks right now if she didn't make a claim, it was only going to be 100 at most to fix the dent.
But oh no. she did a claim, and she gets a brand new bumper, over 1000 bucks of work done to the car, and now my insurance gets jacked up.

I hate how repair shops do that crap
Did you read the thread?

The difference between your story and the OP's story....who was at fault.

When you are at fault, like when you hit that lady, your insurance rates go up.

The OP got hit through no fault of his own...

I got in a wreck when i was a senior in HS. The wreck was considered my fault in the end(long story). At the time i was trying to sell my 2000 Pontiac GA for 3500, Insurance gave me 7k for the total. haha now that was a huge blessing. It was funny because when the agent came out and looked at the car there was big white stickers on the windows that said "FOR SALE $3,500" he looked at it and told me they would cut a check for 7. A great day for me. Besides the brusied face. and nobody else was hurt in the accident.
So i was at fault and i still made more money then i even bought the car for.

I assume that the other insurance company gave you an estimate and wrote a check, then you found a shop to do it cheaper and used the extra money for other items? Then that may or may not be a blessing depending on how well the shop did the work.

So basically the other person's insurance company wrote you a check for the fair market value to get your truck repaired the correct way. Instead of using a body shop you didnt know, that would basically fix your car and pocket the rst of the insurance money, you went with someone you knew who instead of pocketing the extra money, allowed you to get some additional things for your truck! Thats awesome! Congrats!!

And to the person who said ...this is the reason why insurance rates go up....no...this is not the reason.. the reason insurance rates go up are due to the people who should not have a drivers license and CAUSE accidents, stay in your lane, pay attention to the road, and stay off your cell phone

Yikes, maybe a blessing at the moment for you to get all that new stuff for free (well the lady and her insurance paying for it) but I'd be careful of karma man - sounds like you got some bad coming to you. Good luck with everything though!

No bad Karma there man, The Geico did a claim, shop did it for cheaper. Insurance does that all the time. I didn't do anything illegal and I certainly didn't purposely try to hurt her. Had I been able to do it under the table and avoid her insurance I would have. I even gave her the option.
