I am under the assumption/understanding that all pickups have the ability to wire a trailer brake control into the dash with a Ford OEM adapter harness, usually in the glove box.

I also imagine the harness from the chassis harness to the trailer plug may be different and might not carry all wires needed for trailer brakes/acc.

Your tow package comes with:
Includes:
• Class IV trailer hitch receiver
• 7-pin and 4-pin wiring harness inputs
• Upgraded radiator
• Auxiliary transmission oil cooler

My 07 FX2 with the 5.4 has all the above, plus 3.55 LS rear.

You will need to install the required relay and fuses for this also.

Default Yes you will have to add a brake controller

Fairly easy as the plug is near your knees . You want the controller mounted so that you are looking at the ready lights and display and you can easily adjust brake pressure **** and you can apply brake lever by hand as you want the trailer brakes to slow you. Your area by your right knee works best .
Much newer trucks can be ordered in with a built in controller .
In fact there was a big discussion that a tow package should always contain the brake controller unless buyer signed off that he didn't want it . To me it's a big safety issue , too many people don't know about towing safely . So if they order a tow package it should be ready to go . Too many people hook up to a large trailer and take off like an out of control missile . I believe that you should have a separate endorsement/test on your license for towing .

Thanks for the info. I visited my local ford dealer an found out same. They repaired problem, which was simply massive corrosion and mud in the under bumper plug connection. Thanks to all that responded with absolute facts.

Aww, nuts! My truck must have come equipped with the thick radiator, and it was replaced at 89,000 miles with the skinny one.

BOGUS!

An endorsement for towing??? That would require time$, training$$, more bureaucracy$$$, and more superfluous jobs with the likely adoption of harsher premiums on insurance.
This is a bad idea for state sponsorship. Period..

However, it's a good idea if you would like to start a business by offering an elective training course and adopt your own reputation based accreditation. You can help mitigate the problem by creating awareness and offering a solution while doing what Americans used to do best. They used to use the free market to create solutions, make profits, and in some cases make a very successful business.

Always remember this: A law is just a way to DEAL with a problem that nobody has solved.....yet.
