Default 85 year old lesson

Just wanted to lighten the mood here with a non repair topic. My wife and I took her 85 yr old father to dinner and church last night and he told me that he had changed his oil for the last time. I did'nt know he was still doing it at his age. The guy can barely get up and down. He said Im getting too old for this. He has been working on his own cars since he was a teenager. I asked him why he was still doing it at his age and he said the same reason you do it, "I don't like anybody else working on my car" I replied "you mean I have to do this for a couple of more decades". He said "yep" It made me laugh and inspired me. The next time you guys or myself are working on our trucks and griping about it, just think of my 85 yr old father in law crawling under his truck to change his oil. Hopefully it will inspire you too. Merry Christmas

Definitely an inspiration! Same reason I've been working on cars and anything from fridge to computer.

Yea, I hate having anyone work on my cars too, took me over a month to commit to having a shop do my passenger side exhaust manifold.

From what I've heard the manifold jobs is a bitch especially the passenger side, I hope I will never have to.

Just finished doing mine. Lots of patience needed. It is not for the faint of heart.

How much did it cost you to have the passenger side manifold done?

I was lucky and only paid the 6 or 7 shop hours even though it took them 2 days. Can't remember the exact amount but it was less than $600. The mechanic broke a starter bolt and 1 exhaust stud. I had all the exhaust studs changed out with stainless steel studs.
