Also you have to understand that not all Of these trucks suffer the fate yours did. My 06 is at 193k and still quiet as when new. Many others out there with higher miles.
I agree

I purchased my 2007 fx4 crew with 86k, bought from a ford dealership in illnois. Came with a 6 month/6k warranty. It was a one owner vehicle. I bought it 5 hours away from me. Not even a day later the truck would sometimes make a weird knock noise and go away. A week later took it to a local ford dealership, motor had excess play in a crank journal, and the cam caps scarred the cams, warranty didn't want to cover it, two weeks went by and they did finally cover it. Not sure what motor it was a local ford dealer in ankeny, ia did it. It now has 100k/3year warranty like most remans. I've put about 20k on it and so far so good!

Well I'm in the club now too. '04 FX4 5.4 222,220 miles and there goes #1, no compression at all and #3 & 5 at about 40%.

Guess I made it longer than most. Designed and built the truck new in 04. Mobil 1 from the first change at 5,000 miles and every 5,000 miles since 215,000 when I switched to Amsoil Signature to quite the cam phasers which it did.

Just got a $8500 quote from a very good shop with a Jasper reman. This thread has named a few remans:

Powertrain products
promarengine
tristarengines
and Rock Auto.

Anyone have any long term experience with any of the above?

Who is the Best?

Thanks,
Dale in Southern Maryland

I plan on keeping the truck so throwing a used engine in and "dumping" it isn't really an option. I've owned a lot of fords( 3 mustangs 2 explorers 4 f150s) and after I fix this one this will be the last. I hope ford is reading these problem threads on this 5.4.
I don't think they (Ford) care if these lemon specials cost them, they have hooke dtheir wagon onto the Electric train. If they build electrics like they built these POS 5.4 engines (VVT is a dumb idea for street cars, told them that when I worked there). The electric cars are likely to be a multibillion dollar EDSEL BOONDOGGLE for the company, and maybe rightfully so. They have IMHO totally blown their lead in trucks and frankly I am going to buy TOYOTA or other vehicles in the future. Maybe Chevy or Dodge makes a reliable truck , not sure, but I'm a NEVER FORD person now.

BTW my 2008 engine failed at 120k miles. on the second one ($7000K + ) for that.....and the Cam phasor light is on AGAIN!! with the uber of failures on these engines, this HAS to exceed the Ford Pinto failures. Yet no lemon deal??? Is that because it was during the "ICE car/truck purge" of 2008-2016?

Default Aer built is all you want to get

Just need some suggestion on a rebuilt replacement. Not looking for HI-PO options. Not looking for the $6000 Jasper engine either. If anyone has replaced theirs, who they used and what they paid. Looking for UNDER $3000. Used would be an option but most of the used engines I've seen they want almost as much as a reman'ed one.
Powertrain Engjnes out of okc. Request All OEM AER BUILT.Powertrajn products started sneaking in Dorman phasers And other non oem stiff fordtrchmakulovo went away from power train products because of failures and went to ford crate engines which by the way are AER.
4300 IS GOOD mine came with all gaskets and plugs installed.

powertrain prodhcts used to use all oem .but now they don't. I asked them I wanted all Oem and they told me it would be an extra 500 for the phasers.

So the preferred by fordmakeuloco is going directly through the dealership for a ford crate?
What’s a good price?
I’m getting ready but having a hard time finding a trusted shop to remove and install in Tampa.

Default Okay let's make this easy

Probably see this question a number of times.
Google AER engines. Located in Texas they are the exclusive seller of Ford crate engines..
I used one of thier vendors called power train company of okc. Power train products started sneaking in Dorman phasers And other non oem stuff. Frasier is okay but not for the 5.4. Jasper lost control of thier quality control when they contracted with others to build engines. Call power train company ( link below) Tell them you want the 100 percent. Oem upgraded 5.4. Yea I spent the extra for the 5 year no questions asked 124k warranty. The engine came with all gaskets and plugs installed. I put new exhaust headers on and new water pump and power steering pump on. Easy to do when engine is out.

The engine runs better then it did from factory.
I use 5 30 Mobil one in it.

Yea powertrain products has this great warranty of like a bazillion miles but they have a bad track record.

Powertrain compàny has a one time no questions asked return policy.

There will be guys that jump in and tell you billybobs engines are great and joesmoh is great but ford crate engines through AER and powertrain engines out of okc are the only way to go. I paid 4100 for it. I have about 6k on it since install and it runs great.
Anyway that's my advice

https://www.aermanufacturing.com/man...tured-engines/

https://powertraincompany.com/contact-us/

https://www.aersales.com/products/

I researched this for 3 years after oem timing job
Knowing I would eventually need a engine.
I checked with 4 different ford dealers in the phx area aer is where they get crate engines from.
You mean save a few bucks and get an engine with after market crap in it or just get it done right.

^that's great info

this winter i plan on putting an engine in my 04 fx4. usually i like to build as much of an engine myself as i can (heads, timing, etc.) but this time i'm leaning towards purchasing the fully assembled longblock
