Does auto zone have those small clip on cables so that I can do it without taking the starter out?

Are those good enough to extend off the jumper cables from the battery under the hood

to say another way, if you use existing cable and it doesn’t work; you still have possibility of it failing due to the cabling (and not because of batt or starter).
would these jumper wires work if I extend them off jumper cables?

Those test leads from AutoZone would be good for extending wires to check signals on multimeter etc. Or even light loads.

They would not be good for trying to run lots of current through like to starter main cables.

you will want heavy gauge for starter main power, a good jumper cable should work.

for solenoid power on starter don’t need as heavy of gauge. But look at original wire to solenoid for guidance on proper gauge.

okay so which of these do I need to disconnect to test and see if it’s the wiring or starter itself?

The one on the left in the photo needs battery 12v. The one that's closest to the camera is the switched power, so that's the one that gets energized when the key is turned to start. You can short from the battery 12v one to the s terminal with a screwdriver to see if it starts.

I’m not even sure if I’m doing this right tbh

So I got a response… do I need someone turning over the engine while I do this?
