5.4 engine knocking noise
You don't even need to use jumper cables to try what it shows in the video link you posted, just a screwdriver.
Take your multimeter and see if you have 12v at the big post at the starter that the patter positive cable connects to.
If you do you can short between it and the s terminal on the starter and see if it cranks. See what happens. Wear safety glasses. Make sure you don't have the belt hanging loose on the front of the engine when you do this.

to say another way, if you use existing cable and it doesn’t work; you still have possibility of it failing due to the cabling (and not because of batt or starter).
agree. But in his case he has crappy connections and unknown condition of the cabling. You could try it with existing cabling, but if it doesn’t work, I would suggest removing existing cable, run a known good jumper cable to supply power to starter (connected to known hood fully charged battey), then jump connection as described.

If it doesn't work then you are correct it could be crappy connections/wires or crappy starter.
the e brake has no bearing whether starter will work or not when doing this test.
The noise in your video sounds like it's coming from the back wall of the truck cab? That's the BCM and the only time my trucks have made a weird noise back there was when the battery was dead. So I'm inclined to think the problem is a crappy connection or crusty wire still.
Park brake would be a good idea only so you don't run yourself over if the vehicle were to roll for some reason.
