Default 5.4 3v spark plug problem

I have a 05 5.4 3v and have had problems with the spark plugs. The previous owner put a set in at 72k before I bought it at 77k, I replaced the spark plugs at 110k, they said at the ford dealer ship they were 100k plugs. My truck is begining to jump again (it did this when they went out and I had them replaced) it only does this when going from a 35 mph to a 55 mph and going up hills, stuff like that. My truck is at 137k does any one else have this problem and have any suggestions to keep me from having to have this 1200 job done over again?

First off, I'd make sure that the plugs are the actual cause of your problems. Second, it's only $1200 if you refuse to do it yourself. I did the job myself, took a long frikking time and I broke all the plugs but I saved myself a s**tload of money. $100 for plugs, $150 for tools and I got it all done. And what kind of plugs are you running? I would stick to OEM, I use the SP515 plugs.

$1,200???!!! WOW, and I thought the $300 my dealer quoted me was expensive! My Fx4 5.4L is at 130k and I changed them out myself. Check out the sticky on changing spark plugs and use the Ford OEM sheet on there to change it yourself. Plugs were a lil bit of a pain to take out, but, once they were out, the new ones were easy as hell to install and my truck runs great now! As for the continued jumping, I wonder if the dealer broke a piece of a spark plug or 2 when changing them out and it fell in the carb? I've read it can make the engine misfire.

I'm going off of what I read in the repair manual for my truck. I'm talking about the area underneath the spark plug inside the engine.

First off...why would you want to change your plugs with only 30K on them ?? second..do you have any codes telling you mis-fire ?? and third ...your very stupid if you pay somebody $1200 to remove and replace 8 spark plugs.
You sound like you have a clogged cat or a bad FPDM.

It has been reading a misfire before, but i haven't had time to check it this time. Around here no one who works on cars will mess with my spark plugs because of the way a fords are so I have to break the bank and take it to a ford dealer ship to get it fixed. I don't have much mechanical skills other than basics like headlights and wiring for subs and stuff like that, so I don't attempt to do it myself. Once before we thought it was the torque converter but then my mechanic told me about the spark plugs and took it to the Ford place and sure enough that's what it was. I'm just not trying to spend another 1200 job 30k miles and a year and a halflater. How do you tell if you have a clogged cat or bad FDPM?

Do you have any misfiring codes? If so which ones? I would check the plug that goes to each COP and make sure you dont have any that are frayed. Might be shorting out against something. Mine kept on popping up a P0354 code and it ended up being a broken plug and the neck on the COP on the number 8 cylinder. it was a hard fix because the COP and plug were against the firewall on the passenger side. Does it idle rough? If it does I would swap COPs plugs and see if it goes away.

I'm not mechanically savy at all, and I managed to get it done. If you spray Kroil in there and let it soak overnight, the plugs should come out with ease.
