Default 4x4 not engaging

2008 Fi50,,4.6, automatic,XLT, in dash switch for 4x4. when I attempt to engage 4x4 nothing happens.switch is in 2 wheel then I turn to 4 high,nothing,i checked fuses all ok, can it be a motor that switches the transfir case?? Thanks Al

sounds like the motor on the transfer case is sticky...might pay to pull it off and see if it runs. Common to have them rust up.

I looked at a fuse diagram and there are 4 fuses. Did you check them all? Also two 4X4 relays under the hood.

This^^^ The most common problem with these symptoms is a bad solenoid.

Mine is fussy when I do not follow the procedure exactly. It sounds dumb, but are you doing it correctly?

Well... for 4H you just flip the SOTF switch.. it’s not rocket science.
