Default motor

it sorta looks like a wiper motor mounted on the transfer case. might be cheaper just taking it off and have it gone through at an electric shop. might just need the brushes looked at. That's why they say to use 4x4 once a month to keep everything moving and to keep from getting a bad spot in the motor. the brushes sit in one spot for a while and it make a bad spot for continuity. If you went out and tapped it a few times it might work. Think of it like the rotors on your truck... as it sits they build up rust on the surface. As soon as you drive it , its gone, till the next time it sits. sorta the same for winding in a motor. your wipers, starter, ect get used all the time, some several times a day. not so much with the 4x4. may be once a year...maybe once in a FEW years. I think this is what leads to alot of dead motors.

does 405.00 sound like a lot to replace one? I did take it to the dealer. Thanks for the response.

Default $$$

I wouldn't pay that... I believe that it is an easy remove and replace... get a manual for your truck, it will explain it there. then call NAPA (they are about the same...sometimes less than the dealership) but I'd see about getting it gone through first.... I'd guess maybe 100.00 to have it gone through...maybe even less if you take it to a rep shop that will give you the honest answer about what's wrong with it. some will even let you watch them test it...just act very interested in what they do. I'd say about 90% of motors can be fixed for less than 1/2 the price of replacement. People just don't think about it as an option. They may even be able to do.. or tell YOU what to do to keep it from happening again, then you can pass it on to us here !!!

They charged me 515.00 to change this. I wish i ask you smart people before i took it to the dealer. After see what and where it is, I could have changed this myself, 4 small bolts and an electrical plug. Thanks again
