Default 4.6 power ?

Hi all I recently purchased a late 04 reg cab stx 4x4 with the 4.6 and auto.
I cleaned the TB, changed the fuel filter and air filter and did the re learn (I think I did it right) and replaced an IWE.
Anyhow I like the truck, but it just doesnt seem to have the power I was expecting from such a small truck. It has 94k. I swear my 00 v6 4runner had more beans.

It's probably geared for highway driving with the 3.55 if you wanna fell the power regearing would be my suggestion. That's next on my list . A programer would also help.

also clean MAF sensor and maybe toss some injector cleaner in the tank, if you haven't. my 04 4.6 with 3.55 gears doubled her power with several jobs, but those 2 I suggest alone did about 90% of it.

granted, the 4.6 is no powerhouse in the newer gens. owning both, they were much better in the 97-03 trucks. my 04 did go from a sluggish little snail to adequate though.

best of luck.

Your 2000 4runner was lighter by almost 2000 pounds.

A ton of weight makes a huge difference in performance.

I say go with a edge Evo programmer. We have 2 2007 4.6s here at the house. One completely stock then mine that's lifted 6 inches on 35s with the programmer and gotts mod. Both are geared 3.55 and my lifted one will run circles around the stock one on 265s..

Ok it is growing on me. It has 3.73 gears. I ordered an fx4 cluster and an edge for it.

Mine had the transmission OD not working problem. However the problem was not the large snap ring, it was the small E-clip on the OD piston. Drives great now. Now to decide if I want to keep it and drive it , keep it and put 1 tons under it or sell it....

Got a '97 4.6, 234,000 miles with some of what you're experiencing. After two years found my cat converters were the cause. Stay away from fuel tank additives and have them checked.
Good luch.
