Default 23 mpgs!?!?!

So I usually get around 17-19 mpg, but the last couple of days I've been getting 21-23 mpg. I did change my dorman iwe solenoid to a motorcraft one (had the grinding) has anyone else seen this kind of mpgs? Could my edge be lying to me? Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining.

calculate it by hand and not using a programmer.

The programmer is plugged into the OBD II, right? If so, its using the various vehicle input sensors to come up with its calculations, so I don't see how a 'manual' calculation is going to provide any better (or worse) readings.

It would come down to which is more correct, your math, or the vehicles input and calculations? You have to remember too that driving conditions (stop/go), traffic, towing, hauling, and so on are all valid and required input as to daily mileage. So if your going to do this manually, you will need several days of identical driving conditions to get an acurate average.

I've heard that the MPG calculated by the programmer doesn't use the same 'calculus' that the dash MPG uses? Something about the dash using a 500 mile sample, and the programmer using near real time values. Is this true?

when I first got my edge it showed like 25-26 MPG. after a few tanks and me entering in the actual mpg it came back to reality. The only way is to calculate it by hand.

Yeah it's plugged into the obd2 port, this was about 90% highway at 60mph, and I will say that when I noticed the mpgs going up, I really started babying it trying to get it as high as I could.

Not sure what motor you got but how could that be right? I've never met a guy with a 5.4 F150 that gets better than 16-17, my self included. Not saying it can't happen, but known for even decent mileage these motors are not
