I am coming from the 10th gen forum, and don't know a lot about the 11th gen, so a few questions.
I am looking at a 2008 F150 SuperCab STX with the 4.6.
Truck overall looks to be in good condition, 115,000 miles on it, front end recently rebuilt (ball joints, steering components, all shocks, etc), and has had documented services for the life of the truck.
The 4.6 is still the 2v in this year, correct? I have seen a few references to 2008 being a 3v, but I don't think it is.
Anything to look out for or into on these?
I know about the FPDM issues (brother in law has a '04 with he 5.4), as well as spark plug torque being important on these (although not as bad as the 2v 5.4).
Also, STX is just an appearance package, correct? Nothing special as far as equipment?
Good truck IMO... Had an 05 STX supercab with 4.6L. Don’t expect it to do much towing heavy or adding oversized tires.
Truck had rubber floor with manual windows and locks. I think the only options it had was the factory 6 disc MP3 and fog lights haha. STX also had factory painted bumpers.
Drove mine for 7 years with nothing more than regular oil changes and brakes. Turn key and go.
Just needing a basic truck, fancy stuff is nice, but not needed.
I know it does have fog lights. I think he said it has power lock and window option, but not positive.
I am not looking to build it up, just drive and occasionally haul stuff around. No towing planned.
I had a 2007 F150. I noticed my rear diff was starting to seep from the front pinion.
I found that the breather tube on the rear diff was plugged. It was corroded right in the barb fitting on the axle housing. Was able to drill it out by hand (holding bit in fingertips)with a small drill bit, & then blew the hose out with an air compressor. After finding this issue with mine, I also check my fathers truck, & another friends truck, & they both had the same issues.
Maybe more of an issue when driving on gravel, & our Canadian climate.
engine-wise, the 4.6 is a solid choice. 2v and no issues with spark plugs breaking off in the heads. Just over tq them by about 5 ft/lbs to prevent them backing out. Just dont expect much performance out of it. It's a dog, but much like a Saint Bernard. Slow, yet loyal and a;ways by your side.
OK, thanks. Just wanted to make sure that there was nothing in particular I needed to be on the lookout for.
The truck belongs to the friend of a friend, and have not heard back from him in 2 days, so not sure what is going on (and have not been given a firm price).
