I had one other member ask me what type of scam I was referring to so he could be aware of it.
Here is a portion of my response.
A great break in scam is to find a vehicle in a parking lot. Look at the tail gate stickers to see what dealer it came from, look at the vin number on the dash and call the dealer saying you lost the code but here is the vin number colour and configuration of the truck. Sometimes the owner will leave mail or other items with their name and address visible inside which gives the thief even more credibility over the phone.
Once they get the code, they open the door, take what they want and move on with no alarms.
So as I said earlier, most dealers will not give you the code unless you are there with the vehicle, and papers proving you own the vehicle. I won't even take scanned copies of documents emailed to me. I wan't to see this person face to face so I can ensure things are legit.

Steve, I have a 2012 xlt I just purchased and installed a new driver door handle with the keyless entry pad, but it wasn't on my truck from the factory-which lights up but doesn't function (lock/unlock) the doors using the 5 digit code on the card in my owners manual! can I take my truck to the dealer and have it programed to work or not? Thanks for your help...

[QUOTE="Tj11714"]same thing happen to me i didnt know the code when i first got it..... my truck only came with one key , so we went up to the ford place and made spare ..... while we were there we asked if we get get the code for the keypad, when we came back we got a paper saying how much they key cost and stuff and he put the code on there... he didnt charge us anything for the code he just looked up the old code .... and he showed us how to use it and everything... hopes this helps idk if the person u got the car from changed it would make a difference but im sure you could just take it up there....they should give you the orginal code though[/QUOTE
Even if the other owner did change it. It would always work with the original code. You can have both codes on it.

trying to figure mine out. Bought my 08 150 that came with one key. Went to stealership to have another key programmed and asked it they could retrieve the code and they said yes. Go back to the stealership and they said they could not retrieve the code because it was a dealer ad on??? Payed the 73$ for the programming and 21$ for the key and cut. Anyone know of a way to find out what my door code is???
