Default 2008 Coil On Plug Replacement

Hi all, this is my first post I believe, and I did a lot of research before asking, and hoping it was enough research.

But I am in the need to replace a coil on plug for my 2008 5.4 v8 3v. I know I need brown plugs and I was wondering if there were any replacement ones that are recommended, and where to get them?

I know Global seems to be the go to for the DG 511, but from my understanding, I need the DG 521s for my motor, and Global doesn't carry those.

Any help would be appreciated.

If I'm correct, DG511 come with black boots, the 521 come with brown. The coil itself is the same. Just order some boots from amazon or local parts store for about 20 bucks and swap the black ones with brown. The geometry is different between the 2 boots.

How do you know you need a new coil? Have you replaced the plugs? Have you replaced the boots and springs? Both are much more common failure points than COP.

Had a misfire in my cylinder 2, and went and replaces the coil and the misfire went away. I replaced the coil with a duralast coil from autozone. My motor is approaching 70 - 80k miles, and I would like to look into replacing all of the plugs and coils. I'm looking to get them online (way cheaper).

I wasn't aware of just replacing the boot and spring could be a possible fix.

All of my misfires have been fixed by just replacing boots and springs. Much cheaper! It's not guaranteed to fix them every time but it has worked for me so far.

Thanks for that. I will try that. Hopefully, that does that job, because like you said... it is much cheaper.

You'll get a lot of answers on this one.

That was my main question. What coils to get? Should any on ebay work? My main concern was that when moving to the new head style on the 2008 Fords that the boot is longer than on the previous years, so didn't want to strike out on an ebay purchase with shorter boots.

Most of the vendors are pretty accurate with parts placement (my experience). Look for the vendors with high CS ratings, though. Hell, I bought my A/C Compressor and other parts from EBAY as well. No issues.
Some of it may be my own laziness/convenience. Mush easier to unbolt a COP and replace than rebuild one haha
