No. Remove the cluster (do a search; it's been described before on how to do). Be sure to buy the right bulb, as the odometer uses a slightly larger bulb then the guages, as it shines brighter during daylight (headlights off) then the other guage lights.

Your local Ford parts department will have the bulb.

While you have it apart you may as well replace all the bulbs,if one goes the rest aren't far behind. The bulbs aren't that much so its worth doing all of them at once.

I will be doing this within the next few weeks as well. Looks like it is not THAT difficult Few bolts here and there and the cluster comes out. I will be changing all the bulbs while I have it out. Thanks to all the previous posters who provided bulb specifications and detailed instructions on how to do this.

My dealer asked (IIRC) around 300-400 dollars for this. A friend of mine with the same problem fixed it last fall in couple of hours.

Eight (8) 7mm bolts and Two (2) connectors and the PRNDL, very easy the biggest issue is getting the correct bulb.

$300.00 to $400.00 dollars?!? I can have a cluster out in 10 minutes. Twisting out all bulbs and replacing with new ones in another 10 minutes, reinstalling is 10 more minutes. Not a bad profit for a half hour's work!

I was quoted 950 dollars to change the IWS (I hope I remember the name correctly) solenoid cover .... (The one which controls engagement of the four wheel drive).

After I blew my top ever so diplomatically and politely, they bothered to re-check the price .... I believe I paid 45 bucks for labour and whatever the solenoid cover cost, it was negligible.

They won't budge on the light bulb replacement, so I will do it myself .... There must be enough people paying their exorbitant prices, I guess that's how they can afford to loose customers like us. I would have paid an hours of labour for it .... But not 300-400 plus %13 taxes on top !

Ok, I am done venting now
