Default 2005 FX4 Console Shifter Issue

A few weeks ago the release button on my console shifter wouldn't let me out of park. I found out where the emergency release was and wen't on my way. Now it is a real PIA with having to use the emergency release about 90% of the time to get it out of park. I've done some research, searched this forum and can't find an example of my specific issue. Thinking the solenoid is going bad and thus causing the interment issue. I'd prefer to have a solid idea on what is/ could be causing my issue before tearing it apart so I can have the proper parts on hand and make this a one time thing. Any help is appreciated.

I have had to replace 3 shifters for that problem
At a big expense for customers of mine
No individual parts are available for those shifters last I heard

Mine was doing that randomly, not constant, could wiggle the shifter to make it work. Got tired of messing with it so i disabled the lock mechanism. Probably not the best solution but it is for now. Planning to replace the shifter, cable etc at a later date.

They have an upgraded shift release solenoid available now
But
It's 199 bucks
That's better than 390 for a shifter
609-039 is upgraded but a China part, so actually down graded
