Bcm located behind rear seat. There is you tube videos on releasing rear top seat to get to it. It has access code printed on it for keypad entry .

I have no idea if you can get them repaired or use another one from a junk yard . The code to unlock is stored in it . Best to get drawings to see if you need to go there, I'm sure rusty grounds can cause a lot of problems on these trucks .
I am not sure where the auto light shutdown and dimming lives at .

From what little I've read if you have auto headlights it uses the bcm to control this and there is a pin that gets burned and makes the auto headlamps stop working. I've read you can just clean up the contacts and get it working again if it's only a little bad, or you may need a new pigtail or bcm. but I don't know the most permanent solution.

Actually, what y'all are thinking of is the VSM. Vehicle Security Module. Found in 2004-2008 models equipped with autolamps, power windows/locks, remote keyless entry, and I believe a few other optional features that I can't think of at the top of my head at this time. It was also used on F-150 models for the 2009 and 2010 model years as well. The BCM, Body Control Module, did not start being implemented until the 2011 model year. The BCM incorporated the functions controlled by the Vehicle Security Module, VSM, while adding a few more capabilities if I recall correctly.

The 2015+ models have the BCM as well, in addition to a host of additional modules (Steering Wheel Control Module, SCCM, Audio Front Control Module, ACM, Cruise Control Module, CCM, Power Steering Control Module, PSCM, Transmission Control Module, TCM, etc. I believe the TCM came when the 6R80 was introduced on the 2009+ models, not exclusive to the 2015+).

Regarding the GEM, the Generic Electronic Module: That's not used in the 2004-2008 model year F-150's, but was used on the 1997-2003/2004 Heritage (10th generation) F-150's.

OP, this is an html version of the factory workshop manual like the dealer techs use (info might not be up-to-date, but its still good reference). Autolamps diagnosis and testing info is under section 417-01:

Hope this helps!

Corrected. Oops! I was thinking in reference to the 6R80 becoming the sole transmission offering starting in 2011, with the introduction of their current engine lineup, but couldn't quite type it out, haha.
