Default 2004 Overdrive

My 04/F150 drops out of overdrive after shifting out of the first gear. Engine just goes to idle and no moving torque available. I take it out of overdrive by pushing the overdrive switch and all shifting is regained.

Does anyone know what component I need to replace in the transmission to correct this transmission malfunction?

i wish i had good news but mine does the same thing. i have not been brave enough to take it apart myself yet. all the transmission shops want to do a total rebuild for around $1700. i have driven my 6,000 miles with no overdrive so far

Many posts have been pointing to a clip in the tranny that holds the od solenoid. Apparently it can be fixed by dropping the pan. Might want to start there.

Default Will not shift all gears in OD

clip in the tranny that holds the OD solenoid breaks and falls in the solenoid cylinder area and will not let tranny shift. Found great tranny shop in FTW that replace clip for $200.00 (fixed it by dropping the pan and valve body). Great fix!

Default overdrive clip 2004 f150

was a easy repair and i bought the clip on line . dropped the pan -removed 20 some bolts from valve body .slowly dropped valve body and there was half of the broken clip . had a little trouble removing remaining piece of clip (took a tiny drill bit drilled a hole on clip .which made it easy to stick a sharp point into and peal it out . remember to line up the the shift pin between the valve slide when you place the valve body on
