Default 2004 first mod question

well first off I did a search and did not come up with the answer I was looking for. My fiance's father has a ford f150. it is the lariat with the 5.4 and if you need anyother info let me know. He has the truck chipped (and off the top of my head I cant remember which one) but here is the question. For christmas we are looking into getting him a few performance mods and i was wondering what you guys are getting the best gains from. He doesnt want to go with a f/i set up so is the next bet just cai and exhaust? thanks in advance

Cai is gonna be your best bet for the cash, exhaust will give you some but not near as noticeable as the intake, both in power and noise from the cab at WOT. If the tuner let's you upload custom tunes from somewhere like vmp or troyer or php then your going to see even greater gains. So I'd say go with a cai and get him some custom tunes if you can (it'll depend on the tuner he has) and then exhaust if you wanna spend the $$$$

i second that a CAI would be the best option - other than exhaust of course have you considered a new set of headers - if you had extra cash - from my understanding and correct me if im wrong - but if you get the CAI and are willing to still spend a bit more a set of headers and a exhaust would make his truck scream....

i went with a S&B. they have a really great product, and perfect install intsructions. as far as exhaust, im going with the mbrp 3 1/2 inch cat back. i have heard many good things about both.

Your question: "and i was wondering what you guys are getting the best gains from."

You did not specify what you meant by gains, (horsepower, torque, or fuel mileage), as the search would have been easy, and no doubt you'd still be reading threads right now. Very much discussed on this forum.

I'm surprised no one put this, but gears would be a great mod and you wouldn't have to change anything on the engine, but you'd have to have the computer recaliberated so that your speedo will be right. Go to a higher numbered gear in both axles. Though this is expense you will really feel it in the STP test. Good luck on whatever your choice is though!
