Default 2004 Bed Rails

How do you remove the bed rails? I can unsnap the inside retainers from the inside the bed but can't get to the outside ones. Mine are faded and I want to take them off so I can paint them.

If you want to fix the fading of the plastic go get yourself Mothers Back to Black. I had the faded plastic and trim issues all over my truck. Was suggested it by a friend it cleared up everything. Made the bed rails, door handles, wheel arch trim, etc look like new. It cleans up the oxidation and prevents future oxidation.

One you get the inside ones off you can just start gently prying on them and they will pop up. I started by the tailgate cause you can kinda pry it up and see underneath. I used a flat head screwdriver.

What are you painting them with? I did mine with a can of bed liner. Not as good as the roll on liner but looks good and is pretty durable.

Do you think that would work on the windshield wiper cowl? Mine has turned a blue/gray color.

If you're talking about the plastic piece then definitely yes. Mine was badly faded too, it looks like factory again. It works on pretty much all exterior plastic and rubber trim. Also it doesn't actually have to be black originally, it'll still work and remove stains, oxidization and discoloring.

I tried the mothers back to black and it worked for like 3 days.... I did find that if you.pressure wash it first however it works much better. Gotta get the dirt out not cover it up

Use Krylon "Fusion" spray paint. Made for plastics. Works great on the cowl pieces and bed rails. Be sure to clean the plastic pieces first, then wipe down with a good plastic prep. Both the Krylon and plastic prep can be bought at a good auto parts store.

You'll be pleased with the results.

Back to Black only works for a couple wash jobs...I found some stuff made by Bondo called Black restore...got it at pep boys...works a whole lot better. Paint would work the best.
