2001 to 2010 Screw 5.4 2wd
Looking at trading my perfectly good '01 Screw Lariet 2wd 122k mi for a '10 Screw Lariet 2wd 95k mi. Both have the 5.4. I know the '10 is a 3v. But any advantage in drivability, fuel economy and ride with the '10. Both are rust free.

The 2010 will have a 6 speed, not a 4 like the 01, so you'll get slightly better mpgs with the extra gears and it will be better with towing too.
Personally, I would drive the 01 a bit longer until an early 10s 5.0 Coyote is available. I trust that engine a lot more than the 5.4L and since you've probably had the 01 for a long time, you know its history and what work has been done on it.
BTW, how did you only drive the 2001 for 122k miles in Kansas? You work at home?

I bought this truck 2 years ago w 101k. Was a local sales vehicle at the company I work for. Last year had every single fluid/filter changed. Along with plugs and belts. Runs perfect. Uses no oil and stays clean. Change oil at 3000 mi as I only drive 6 miles each way thru town to work. Exhaust pipe is clean inside tip. Been a damn good truck. Runs perfect. I thought about waiting for early 5.0 also.

5.4 2v > 5.4 3v. It’ll outlast any of the VVT engines.
