Post 1st road trip

hello everyone, new to this forum. Recently purchased my 2004 f-150 lariat Scab and planning on taking it from Ca to Tx for the first time. Anything you guys recommended on checking before I head out? Out here in CA on my 1st year of college and going out to visit family for thanksgiving. Thanks in advance!

1. Check all fluid levels are OK (Engine oil, XMSN fluid, power steering, brake, radiator).

2. Ensure tire pressures are good, including the spare...and that you have a jack and lug wrench, etc.

3. Have a parts place (Auto-zone, Advance, O'Reillys, etc) check your battery and charging system (most will do that for free in the parking lot).

4. There are long stretches of nothing on that trip. Have some water, food, and a couple blankets stashed somewhere in your packing list...just in case.

^X2 on that advice, the water, food and blankets are a great idea. I have been stuck before waiting on a tow truck in other vehicles (not my f150) and I had to wait about 4 hours for a tow truck that towed me to a place that didn't open for about 3 more hours. Good luck on the trip, take pictures of the truck and post to the Trucks in Fall pic thread.

Great advice^^

Bring a self defense tool, a lighter and a gas can full of gas with you as well.
Make sure to carry some cash on you too..

A fresh oil change for the truck is mandatory in my book. Unless your oil is only 2-3k miles old.

That drive will be desolate at times, but it's a beauty...

Where you going to school? Not many California guys on here it seems. Good luck on your trip, as everyone else suggested pack extra food and water just in case.
