Default 06 Throttle Body

Hi....I removed and cleaned the TB on my 06 F150 5.4 after it was exhibiting all the symptoms and the mechanic said that the TB needed replacing (700 bucks with TB and Accelerator). So I cleaned the TB (it was pretty nasty) and reinstalled. Now she idles but no response at the accelerator. I'm guessing that it has something to do with the TPS. I did take it off during the TB cleaning. The harness is plugged in. I don't think it's an adjustable one. Looks like it can only go one way. When the TB is installed back onto the intake, what position should the butterfly (or whatever it's called) be in? Closed, open, does it matter? Thanks in advance for any tips!

Sounds like either the TPS is bad or thr actator. And they are a lot cheaper than 700 dollars.

Does it make a difference what position the butterfly valve thing inside the throttle body is in when the TB is put back on (open, closed, etc..)?

Its “spring loaded” it goes back to the closed position on its own. If it doesn't then something in the actuater is broken.

That helps....seeing as how I had no accelerator issues before I took the TPS off, I'm hoping that I reassembled it backward or something. Wouldn't be the first time I've done something like that. I'll take it all back down in the morning, maybe get a manual...Thanks for your help!

Ok....pulled the TB back off, changed the TPS. Idles smooth and low (about 650) but just a hint of response when the accelerator pedal is depressed. When I pull the MAFS the engine promptly dies. What else could be wrong? Thanks for any advice.

I'd say its something in the throttle actator.

Can you go into a little more detail about the throttle actuator (location, function, etc)? Is that the component thats on the opposite side of the TB from the TPS? Has the little gears with the spring inside?

Yes it opens and closes the butterfly. If it won't go back to the closed position I'd say the spring is broken.

I really appreciate your help....I had that piece apart...I think it's intact but I may need to look into it again. The butterfly moves but doesn't "spring" back into the closed position. If it's supposed to, that may certainly be the problem. Does it have to be wound or something? The end of the spring goes into a little slot and doesn't appear broken but I bet you're right and the problem is somewhere in there. No accelerator problems until I had the dang thing apart. If I'd known what I was doing, I'd have never touched it. is there a special process to putting it back together (the actuator)?
