Default 05 sluggish acceleration

hello I have a 2005 5.4 and its sluggish accelerating, takes me about 12 seconds to hit 60. is this typical? if so what's the solution to this issue. new fuel filter, plugs, I got the cam phasers locked out and timing redone new chains and tensioners and so on...and I service every 5k. its got 215k miles, the problem is getting worse as I have owned the truck for 5 years now, its been a good truck otherwise seemed the previous owner took care of it. it runs very smooth and starts on a dime, just slow and underpowered feeling, it barely pulls a trailer although its generally enough power to get me around, its just not what it should be I don't think. i get about 11.5 to 12 mpg not bad but I think it could be better, although I do short commutes and rarely get a fair evaluation. I run this truck super hard, probably start it up and stop it a dozen times a day.

i don’t know specifically how much, but you lose power/HP by doing the phaser lockout.

is it throwing any codes ?

You could look at cats to see if they are starting to plug. Look at your 02 readings are your 02's old .Look at torque pro for misfires /lean/rich indications .You may need new injectors as yours have a lot of duty on them .Compression checks maybe .

Get them hot and see if they smell (rotten egg smell) or they may even glow red if real clogged.

hi laterongc, sorry this took me so long to reply. yes, the engine light is on and its a P0020 code. what does that mean and is it something to look into. is this code a result of the cam phasers being locked out? it does not seem to hurt how the engine runs, its smooth and quiet. any help from anyone on this would be appreciated. thank you

So im suspicious this is a computer issue. I did get a new PCM shortly after I got the truck because the old one was failing, but I don't have anything to go by as far as acceleration goes before that. if I plug a tuner into the truck and stomp it, I only get about 70% engine load at the highest. I should be able to get more than that I think. Does anyone out here know anything?? this is frustrating, and the only way forward for me is to get info from people who may have experienced this issue; what can be done? should I change the throttle position sensor? is the throttle body out of whack? can I adjust the foot peddle drive by wire somehow? one other thing I tried is resetting the peddle and that didn't help anything. now one interesting note...if I drive the truck on the road, and place the gear shift in 2 gear,(this is so the trans doesn't try to up or downshift) and stomp it to the floor, and quickly release the peddle, I mean let it snap back up,FAST) and within the same second stomp it to the floor again, I get a surge of instant power, but it instantly goes back to the powerless feeling and slowly increases rpm to redline. I can repeat this again and again, simply demonstrating I have a communication somewhere to that throttle body that's holding back. what's there to do??????? I wish I could grab that throttle plate manually and open her up. Cani download a custom tune to open that baby wide? please I need answers

If I were you, I would do a reset of the throttle body. Fordtechmakuloco has a good tutorial on it, but it includes letting the truckidle for a while and then going for a drive. If that doesn't fix it, I would go to cha ging injectors. If your truck isn't getting good spray, your truck may be getting feedback and not letting your throttle stay open because the injectors aren't spraying enough and you end up leaning out.

If that doesnt do it, id probably chalk it up to being old and they just werent that fast. I think the 4x4 screw had a 0-60 of like 9 seconds originally
