Default 05 Rear Diff LSD fluid fluid options

pros and cons if any?

i know i need 5.5qt including the LSD additive. is that 5.5 total or 5.5 then add additional LSD additive?

are there any bad gaskets not recommended to use? local parts store uses FELPRO and not sure if that's good enough.

thing is, i just got the truck a month or so ago and is at 95k miles. this past weekend got stuck and sat overnight in water (rear only). so i need to change asap. i can get fluids and gaskets for about 60-75 bucks using the good stuff. a place around the corner wants $120 plus the additive cost to do it for me. thinking i might just let them do it but i would like to see in there myself and this is NOT a hard job at all. just a bit time consuming.

You can buy products like amsoil where you don't have to have a LSD additive because it's already in it.

lets compare prices and quality. is the quality really there for royal purple at $20 per QT or would i be ok with the $6 store brand per QT?

dumb question i know but oils are oils right?

Valvoline High-Performance 85W-140 Gear Oil = $7
Royal Purple Gear Oil Syn 75W140 = $21
Mobil1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-140 (1 qt.) = $20

K & W Chemical Trans-X® Posi-Trac® Limited Slip Gear Oil Additive = $10

these are AdvancedAuto prices fyi. they are closest to me

With RP you can skip the additive. I used RP just because i like their products. Don't use a gasket for the cover, use RTV gasket maker. That's how it is attached from the factory.

your speaking of motor oil though. this is diff fluid/oil. 5w30 is motor. 90-140 is diff.

verify we are on the same page.

I was more or less talking about quality but realized that I was only referring to motor oil...

The same applies for diff oil, and tranny fluid however... You do get what you pay for....

I would run with royal purple or amsoil in the diff.... It's likely to be in there for a long while, so it would be wise to choose a high quality gear oil...

is 75-140 or 75-90 what i need? and this has the additive right? so just buy 6qt's, dump 5.5 and call it a day with the black rtv gasket maker?
