Dont mean to hijack, but never understood this mentality: “I can’t afford coolant, so I’ll melt my engine and then have to afford to fix it.”

Better yet, I can't afford antifreeze, I'll spend 10 times the money in electricity. And 10 times the money again on a new motor.

Radiators do go bad they really can't be fixed anymore ,tubes too Small . Good news they are cheap online . If you don't change coolant when you should and use quality stuff you will have trouble . Get it out of there, final flush with distilled water for sure ,boiling regular water will crust up with lime just like a tea kettle .Replace your coolant saver tank cap it is a pressure cap!!!!! Replace thermostat while you are at it . .Burp system with squeezes to top rad hose get air out .
I run an ac temp gauge on my trans cooler in front of radiator just to keep an eye on it . Heat kills transmissions . Use drain type pan on trans to keep trans fluid fresh .Every 30k or so .4-5 quarts at a time over several weeks . Mercon V only by the case .amazon .

i got a valve assembly on the way. hopefully that does the trick.

did look at my radiator and it has the original 04' sticker on it.... i could understand if it's a little tired out...

I put in an overkill transmission cooler, because Like you, I tow at maximum capacity. It has a thermostat and fan on it, that kicks on at 190. It helps tremendously, and the reason I can justify it, is there is not much air in the high altitudes while vacationing in the mountains, pulling a car trailer with a Jeep on it. It takes as much cooling as you can make happen at high altitudes. I do still use the radiator cooler, and the stock 9 row cooler, but it runs through those first then through what I believe is a 25 double row cooler. My transmission stays cool, but I have heard it kick on once or twice when I was arriving after a long hard pull. I monitor my temperature through the Torque Pro app.

The reasoning behind my decision is the fact that the internal trans cooler lines in the radiator are prone to corrosion. When they corrode through, the cooling system pushes coolant into the transmission. Additionally, at higher altitudes (in the mountains) the extra heat load from that cooler coupled with the heat from the engine can surpass the cooling capacity of the radiator.

Does bypassing this cooler degrade the factory transmission cooling? I doubt it. At least I have never heard of it doing so, and have consulted with a few reputable transmission shops about it prior to deciding to complete the modification. Does it remove a source of failure in the powertrain? Absolutely.

I don't remember the exact model, but its rated for an overkill of 26,000 lbs.
After reading this thread, I wish I would have known about the bypass valve, I would have tried replacing that first, and I will still do that, only now I have this cooler mounted.

this was a picture from before I had it wired up, but it is now wired up and working great. My transmission still runs at around 150-190, but never goes above that anymore.

Not working for me either. Get basically a gray "do not enter" type logo.
