in your opinion...
Im on a limited budget looking to purchase an f150. there are lots out there available in my price range. in the 04-08 model with anywhere around 120-150k miles. i have found a 2010 with about 143k miles. in the same price range. Would you recommend the 2010 with that many miles or the older model with same miles. i wasnt sure if it was better to have the newer model even though its obviously been driven more, or the older model that was driven less miles average per year..

I'd go for the newest you can afford. Not sure if the 4.6 in the 2010 got the 6 speed transmission or not though, it may have just been for the 5.4. If you are planning on towing, the 5.4 and 6speed transmission will be the best combination.
4 forward gears vs 6. The 5.4 has more power and torque and will get the same mileage. The 6 speed helps with both mileage and towing and the 6 speed has a tow/haul mode that is not available on the 4 speed transmission.

If the 4.6 is the 3 valve go with that one. It will have the 6 speed where as the 4.6 2 valve has the 4 speed.
I got the 4.6 3 valve and find it great. Good fuel economy, 23 mpg on the highway and will pull my 5500 lbs rv trailer wherever I want to go.

I have a 2010 4.6 3v with 120k and its a fine truck. I never got 23mpg on flat highway. I get more of 20 on flat land doing 55 when im lucky. 65 drops me down to about 17-18. 12-13 in town but I am running 33 inch tires so that does not help. My peace of advise would be to do some reading on cam phaser problems so you know what to look for in the 04-10 year range.
I would say the newer truck would have more highway miles which should be easier on the engine.
I think you will find the 5.4 feels noticeably stronger but depending on your needs that may not be a problem.

I believe the 10's had the 6 speed. Even the 4.6 will feel worlds above the older 4 spd for driving. I had an 09 4.6. It did everything I asked of it, including moving me 3 times in 3 years with a heavy duty utility trailer. There's a lot less problems associated with the 4.6 3V compared to the 5.4 3V. I would rather get a newer truck with upgrades for the same price than an older one that has been used longer.
