Default XTR Locking differential

I have a new 2010 screw 4x4. Looking for some help, it doesent have a locking Diff, is it possible to add? If i purchase a switch from ford with the diff lock option; can i wire it into the harness, does my rear axle have the ability to lock or will i have to go aftermarket?

Any help would be appreceiated!

What they will do if you take it to Ford is take out the open differential (out of your pumpkin) and put in Limited Slip (ford Trac-Lok gears) gears that will generally function as an open differential until slippage occurs where it will lock up. This helps tremendously off road because you can have more than 2 wheels (one front one back) spinning at the same time. A limited slip is not electronic, it has nothing to do with the wiring. You can also buy a locker but that is very different, a locker is locked most of the time where if you turn it can bind up and negatively affect on road performance. Your rear axle will work with any differential as long as it is similar gearing, lower gearing (higher number numerically) will require a bigger pumpkin. I hope this helps.

Also go for front and rear since you have 4x4.

Whatever raptor said did not answer the question.

A locking differential is a mechanical part. It is not something that is a plug in option. Ford can and will install the locker that comes in FX4 but you better believe you are going to pay through the nose. There are aftermarket lockers but they will also be pricey. What rear end do you have? 8.8 or 9.75???

I think I answered his question decently. With all due respect, maybe you need to learn english...

I was just explaining to the person who obviously knows nothing about differentials a little something. Maybe a locker just isnt for him...

Pretty sure he has a hang on English. If anything, you might want to catch up on what PART TIME locking differentials are.

As in limited slips... or as the OP asked about another option is an E-locker...

Agreed, you totally blew smoke up his butt, you need a bigger "pumkin" to get lower gears...... really you actually said that. Also a electric locker is disengaged and enguaged when needed. Limited slip will not "lock up" ever, unless it is a torque sensing limited slip like the G85 found on the Chevys. A locker or limited slip up front would be a terrible idea for anyone except Hardcore offroaders, these setups track horrible.

I know English. Do you know simple mechanics? Whatever puke you were trying to spew does not make sense. You are explaining things like he has a 9". A locker can be mechanical, or electric. The one Ford puts in the FX4, which by the way only has the 9.75 is electric. This is not a pissing match. I was shooting down bad info. Excuse me.

To the OP, yes you can add a locker, it costs, it is an actually mechanical addition to the rear diff. If you have a limited slip that would have to be taken out and a locker placed in. Hope this helps

Sure, I apologize I was being an ***. I will admit I dont know too much about these newer rides. I own a Gen8, and come from a Forum with a huge Gen6 and Gen8/9 community....
