Question XLT vs FX4

Hello all, new guy here. I'm looking to buy a new F-150 and am a little torn between an XLT and an FX4. I know that I want a 3.73 rear end with max tow package as I would tow some fairly heavy loads often enough to justify having it.

I'm going to order a truck in the next 6 months and my questions are as follows:

If you don't count the cosmetic differences are the only mechanical differences the locking rear differential, flow-thru console, shift on the fly 4wd, and skid plates that the FX4 has?

Does the FX4 have upgraded shocks or other suspension mods over an XLT?

I don't really need the skid plates but I could see the locking rear diff being very useful. The price difference between the 2 is such that I think the options listed above make it worth it but I'm trying to educate myself a little better.

Thanks in advance.

If you are going to order an 2011, then you will be able to get the offroad package that comes with skid plates, shocks and e-locker on the XLT.

Check out the order guide. https://www.f150forum.com/f38/2011-o...-online-63332/

I think in 2010 the Electronic Shift on the Fly 4x was only an option on XLT and below model trucks.

Now the next big question is, when will Ford update the website for the 2011 F-150 so I can compare prices?

Wow! Never saw an F150 in this market with manual (get out of the truck) locking hubs. Learn something new every day.

If you include all F150s.... going back many many many years... You could put manual hubs on the new ones though I suppose, but not from the factory!
