Default Wierd - Seized dip stick???

I have a 2010 F150 with the 4.6 - 2 V engine. 34,000 miles. I just realized I can't pull the engine oil dipstick out! It will turn a full circle and I hear the metal stick revolving but no mater how hard I pull, it won't come out.
Common problem?

First I've heard of it. I have the same year, same engine, with 10k more miles. Mine pulls out fine.

Pretty common occurrence with the 5.4. Moisture builds up at the top of the tube and sort of welds it in. I think the plastic Ford used actually swells up… very poor choice of materials. Happened with my 06 and it was a real bitch getting it out. Just be very careful not to break it because then it turns into a horror show. The metal stick falls all the way down to the pan and you can't reach it.

I managed to get mine free with a lot of screwing around. If you get it free take some sandpaper and reduce the size of the plastic part. Just make sure you clean it after sanding……… Good luck and be careful……..

Thanks Guess I am not alone. I sprayed it with WD 40 for the night.

Default Yipeee!

This morning after soaking it in penetrating oil for the night, it pulled right out. I sanded down the plastic and lubed it up. No problems.

Dip Stick Frozen in Tube - 2009 F150 w/ 5.4 V8. Started by soaking the dipstick & tube w/ WD40. Eventually managed to remove the dipstick - but ended up breaking off top half of the yellow O ring handle. Disgusted took my truck to local Ford dealer. Service writer wasn't even interested in looking at the vehicle. He acknowledge Ford is aware of the problem and said they aren't willing to do anything about this issue. Believe Ford should accept responsibility and offer replacements. It appears this has been going on for a number of years. Poor customer service!

That happened on my 2010. I bought with 11,000 miles about 6 months ago and assumed it was due to not being driven. I noticed I twist it 1/4 turn and it comes right out. Same for going in. I wonder if there is some kind of lock on it.

The older my 4.6L got, the harder it was to pull the dipstick out too. I had to keep the cap part very clean, otherwise it would stick.

I have the same problem with 2010 with the 4.6 3v. Always assumed previous owner took it somewhere for an oil change and they somehow mixed it with another vehicle. Guess I'll be sanding mine down

I actually mic'd it and the stupid thing does "SWELL" up! The older it gets the more it will get stuck!

Sanding works just fine…

BTW I too was convinced that the dipsticks at the dealership switched dipsticks… but it really wasn't their fault… ………...FOR ONCE!
