Why no redline on the tach?

Even with a standard trans you don't really need a tach unless you're winding up the motor in every gear for some reason. Synchros were out of my 5 speed Ranger and I could double clutch the downshifts as well as heel and toe them w/out looking at the tach - that truck was lot of fun to drive. Even in my track car usually the only time I look at the tach is when it's wound up on a straight - other than that just go by feel.

It could come in handy while driving in Manual mode. I think the manual states that it will downshift but not upshift so there's a risk of ruining the transmission (or something to that effect).
