Default Where's The Starter Solenoid

I'm putting KC backup lights on my 5.4L 2010 F150 Supercab. Popped the hood and could not find the starter solenoid to get to 12V power. Any idea as to where they hide the thing now days? It use to be readily available on the fender next to the battery.

why do you need to find the starter solenoid to hook up reverse lights?

The lights will draw 8.4 amps and will be feed thru a relay controlled by a switch. The draw is too much to take off the oem backup light circuit and I want them switched. Is there another place or way to hook up to the battery?

if you're looking for something like the OLD starter solenoids, like the ones that were fender mounted on the old 351's and in-line 400's, you're not going to find it...

you wont find a separate solenoid on ANY new vehicle; they're all mounted on the starter itself. typically you'll have a main power feed going directly from the battery down to the starter, and then another smaller signal wire hooked to the solenoid too, that energizes and makes the solenoid engage

example:

really, the only thing you can do is hook it right to the batter terminal itself

Thanks for the response. I was afraid of that. Guess I will tap off the battery directly. Thanks again for the help.

The correct way to hook these lights up are to

1. Get constant 12v power from the battery. (make sure this line is fused as close to the battery as possible)

2. run this power line to a RELAY.

3. Tap in to what ever "trigger" wire you want to turn your back up lights on. ( id suggest the 12v switched blue wire in the passanger kick panel- and fuse this wire also)

4. Run this "switched" wire to a rocker switch located on your dash

5. Then run from the switch on your dash to the relay ( same relay the 12v is going to)

6. Ground appropriate prong on relay.

7. Run 1 12gau wire from relay back to your back up lights

8 use this 12 ga wire as the positive to your lights

9. gound your lights to chassis

10.DONE.

This way when the truck is running or on you will be able yo use your back up lights, and the current draw going through your switch on the dash will be minimal!

Exactly. Just don't want to tap directly off the battery. Thanks for the info anyway.
