Does anyone know how to reset the oil life monitor when the truck has the "Type 2" information controls?

My owners manual gives detailed instructions for this topic, but only for the "Type 1" information controls.

My truck does not have the Info, Setup, and Reset buttons.

I am assuming you are talking about the 4.2" LCD display which is found in the upper end trucks? Just work your way through the menu and you will find the oil life reading. Just continue through the menu to reset it.

In a normal engine operating environment if you keep the oil clean by using a high quality bypass filter system you never need to change the oil, just change the filters and add top up oil. but bypass systems aren't economical on these engines, mostly on 12+L diesels.

For those not comfortable with the 10K oil change, you can do a reset to 75% or 50% so you have a reminder at the intervals that you want. My dealer stickers for 3K. Good thing I know better.

Ignore the monitor. Folks sending their oil in for analysis at 3,000 miles were showing the oil was really fuel diluted >3%. No way I'm going past 4-5k miles between changes. It's cheap insurance. I do not need a fake oil life monitor telling me when to change.

So set it at 50% as a reminder. Or lower if you like. Sort of like putting a dentist appointment on the calendar.

I think these filters should be called something else rather than bypass.Maybe active or primary. The normal filters we use are a bypass type. They onlycapture about 25% of solids at most and zero unburnt fuel and water.

I believe what you're talking about is a filter that removes all solids downto 1 micron. Many of them also absorb unburnt fuel and water. If one of theseare added to your oil circulation system you should expect approx 100K betweenoil changes. In the interim you'll check and top off the oil level and maybe periodicallychange the filter cartridge. At 100K you also change the filter cartridge inyour primary filter.

You're right in the sense that you don't mind these other than heavy dieselbut they are made small enough for standard cars and trucks. These used to runaround $300 plus installation. Replacement cartrage around $50.
