CAC = "charge air cooler"... aka intercooler (to me anyway).

I've wondered the same - should those with the old part and no failure claim it just so they do not have problems in the future? Part of me says yes - but I'd give it a few months if it was me - only so that those WITH problems can get their stuff fixed and then when parts are more available they can get to people in your situation. I'm not sure how Ford would handle it without a CEL/code thrown though.

Other than crap mileage (around 13.4 overall at 10K miles) my truck has had no problems. However this CAC talk has gone from a few people who had problems pulling a trailer out into traffice to seemingly EVERYONE is having this replacement done.

I have no idea what to do, as people who have it done state less power (some) and less mileage (the LAST thing I need, it sucks already!).

What to do??

What is the deal on the intercooler. What to look for? What years involved?

Chapelt, My engine mis-fired as I tried to jump out onto the highway when I got the opportunity. I didn't know what happened until I moved my hand on the wheel and saw the yellow check engine light flashing rapidly. Ford dealer says don't drive it or you'll kill it. I already put 50 more miles to get it serviced, and they said I luckily did no damage. The 2012 was a year and 1 wk. old for me and has 14,000 miles on it.

Mine was just over a year old too. Went to the dealership today (they've had the truck a week). They have determined I do not have a bad turbo but a bad solenoid, and are replacing the cac and reprogramming the ECM. Except they have 14 cac's on back order. They have me the truck back until the parts come in though, and oddly enough I had to make an extended trip for work. The truck ran fine, and for some reason got slightly better mileage then it has in a long time. I am thinking they did the reflash already, as shift points and acceleration are much improved. Still waiting on my new truck, hopefully early next week and then I won't be worrying about the parts coming in.

How is it that after 3 years of this engine, and inter cooler set-up that this problem shows up. If you watch the dvd of the extensive testing they did it seems it should have shown up then? confused. Will be interesting to see if problem shows in the 2013 models.
