It's for the ambient lighting if equipped. I'm PISSED that I don't have it. It would be good for when you're getting in the mood with a girl on a friday night.

Nah it just fits well there. When my dad traded in his MDX on his Lexus 460 he had left his at home and the Lexus dealer had a helluva time getting his plate off the Acura to put on the Lexus. I just figured it was a good spot where it wouldn't get lost, I'll know where it is and it won't rattle around and make me crazy.

And I agree with the pp - that interior looks beautiful.
