Default What do i need to regear?

Hey guys, I'm rehearing my 2010 XLT 2wd because I'm getting 35" tires. What do I need besides the Yukon 4.56 gearset? Do I need something I've heard thrown around "master install kit"? It only has 9k miles so I don't know if it needs new bearings and such. Any help here?

you most likely wont need the master install....all depend if they can press the pinion bearing without damaging it...

you'll still need a gear install kit which as pinion seal and shims to properly set the gears..

get the master install kit. even if you dont use the new bearings ( i suggest you use the new bearings) it comes with the shims, seals, crush sleeve, gear paint and probably new bolts for the ring gear. on top of that in order to properly set the gears and measure backlash you will need a dial indicator and a magnetic base, micrometers to measure shims, a dial torque wrench for setting pinion pre-load and alot of patience.

I'm having a shop do it, so I don't know about all that last stuff! So I still need a master install?

ok, never mind all that than. I would still get the master kit though, the shop will need most of the parts from the kit still.

you could call the shop that will be doing the install for you and ask them if they need it just in case they dont for some reason.

If the shop has a carrier/pinion bearing puller you may not need the master kit.If they don't there is a slim chance that they can remove the bearings and races without damaging them.
