Default What is in the basic tow package vs Max Tow Package

Besides the mirrors and the upgraded bumper, is there anything else extra you get with the max tow package?

I assume with the standard tow package you get the same transmission cooler and the same upgraded radiator.

My 2010 Screw Lariat 4x4 has the 4pin and (what I call) 'circle' trailer connections as well as integrated trailer brake and I think upgraded leaf springs, it feels more stiff than other f150s I've been in. Payload sticker says 1787lbs.

If you look at this PDF document from Ford, you will see that all the highest trailer weight limits have a (3) or a (4) next to them. Those are "Heavy Duty Payload Package" and/or "Max Trailer Towing Package" respectively. With "Heavy Duty" you get upgraded shocks and springs. The only difference I could see between a regular tow package and a max tow package is an upgraded rear bumper and a trailer brake controller.

My 2013 confuses me just a little bit with respect to this PDF though. I have a Trailer Brake Controller and Trailer Tow Package. I also have both types of trailer connectors. This is all listed under "standard equipment" for my FX2. I do not see where mine is upgraded to Max Tow or Heavy Duty tow though. I suspect certain levels of trucks already come with some of the items included in Max Tow (such as that brake controller I have).

This PDF explains most of the questions you might have about towing. Although it is specific to 2014, I suspect it's all similar from 2009-2014.

If I'm not mistaken the max tow also has 7 lug wheels, everything else has 6 lug.

Nope, Max Tow shares same 6-lug pattern with all other F150 'cept those with HD Payload Pkg. Both pkgs combined were not available as a selectable config order option on mine due to specified cab style, bed box and wheelbase...

Dirtdawg - to add to your list, the Max Tow package requires the 3.73 rear differential as well.

My '13 SCrew 5.0 short box has all the factory equipped options of the Max Tow Package, except for the Towing Mirrors and 3.73, or lower, rear axle. Mine has the 3.55 E-locker.

Only the radiator is upgraded in size. To my knowledge the external (oil-to-air) trans cooler's size remains the same on all those which it is equipped. However, the internal (oil-to-water) trans cooler in the radiator may be larger. That is something I can't validate.
