Viper Smart Start Remote Start
Just got the Viper smart start installed today on my 2010 screw. It amazes what they can do with an Iphone. Tried it from inside Walley world and it started just fine. Sweet!!!
I had the model 5101 Viper remote start installed along with the module for the smart start for the Iphone. You can get a stand alone smart start but you won't get any keychain remotes with that. I just know there are a few times that phones don't work real well. A local shop that I have used over the years installed it. Best Buy did not have the information needed for any possible updates for the 2010 models. They may have now though as I had this install scheduled for over a month. So far it works just a described, great!
Do a search on who installs Viper remote starts locally, and they should be able to help you.

That's why I went with them even though I would have preferred to use my local truck shop (Truck Toyz in Arlington, Tx - great group of guys by the way).
i also got a viper smart start. i'm not sure which model, but i got no key fobs or GPS. which, is fine, cause i don't have kids. lol.
i used to have a iphone 3Gs, and i downloadded the app before i had the VSS in the truck.
last year on my ex's bday, i bought my 2010 screw 4x4. so this year, i had the VSS installed on "it's birthday" nov 26.
anyways, while the installer was putting it into my truck, i met my (now) gf in futureshop in Edmonton, canada.
i now have a samsung galaxy S2LTE with rogers... big difference with LTE and 4G vs 3G.
anyways, VSS is going to have a software update soon, 3.0.
does anyone know how many AUX ports are on the actual hardware?

it sounds a bit crappy, but i have had it for over a year.
here is how i see it.
every remote starter out there gives you no more than 5 miles for a radius to start it. you can have a 1-way remote starter and always wonder if it actually started with the truck or if youfe too far away or on a mall causing interference.
a 2-way would tell you that it started your truck... but you may still be too far away which would still render it useless.
a VSS doesn't care how far away i am from my truck. i could be a half hour away, and it would tell me that my truck started.
so long as i am in cell service and my truck is too. it will work.
if i am out of cell service, it runs on Bluetooth.

I got the SmartStart with GPS and the Viper 5704. Right now I just have the basic GPS service which is primarily car location. So far I really like the setup.
you need to pay for the subscription for every VSS.
doesn't matter if you have GPS or not, you pay 150 every three years for basic service.
gps service is obviously more expensive.
you may think we're crazy, but it's more bang for your buck than any other starter.
