Question Using ipod to select songs

I figured I would have stumbled upon a thread about this or figured it out myself by now but no luck. So, does anyone know how to change the snyc settings so you can change songs by using an ipod versus speaking or using the radio controls?

Is this possible?

So you're asking how to use the iPod's controls to play music from the iPod through the truck's sound system?

If so then the simplest way to do this is to run an audio cable from the earphone jack of the iPod to the Line In (sometimes called the Aux or Auxiliary) audio jack on the truck, and set Sync to use Line In as its source.

I did just that this weekend. You can manage music from your iPod. Picked up the cable at Radio Shack, but places like BestBuy probably have them. Three way RCA jack to three way RCA jack - males on both ends.

I have to turn the iPod and the radio volume up quite high to get it where I like it, much higher than normal. Be careful switching sources. It could blow you out the truck!

There is no way around it with the USB plugged into the stereo. The stereo and the phone recognise each other; and it has been by design that it will not allow it to be controlled thru the phone.
If you leave the cable unplugged, and connect via bluetooth then you will get your on phone control back.
This leaves you with a phone that can't be charged... if you go to a store a look for one of these plugged into the truck. You will get your charging capabilitites back (the phone will recognize this simply as power) and your phone will still be able to control the music. Only thing you will lack in this configuragtion is the on dash track display info and the ability to use the Sync voice commamds to cue up specific music. But you will retain the ability to use the phones voice features anyway.
FYI... as a side note. If you use an iPad as well and want to use the same adapter. The power requirements on the iPad are not met by all of these adapters. You will have to pay a little more for a higer quality one.
Hope this helps, this seems to be a little long winded, but it should explain it throughly.
The headphone jack solution is fine as well, but you do get a degradation in audio quality. Which if you are not picky about might not even be all that noticeable.

Now I am confused... First, the OP is asking about iPod and not iPhone. Maybe newer iPods come with bluetooth, but my classic with the wheel does not, at least not that I am aware of.

If you plug in the power/usb adapter truck-to-iPod Bulldogge linked to, then adding a bluetooth adapter to the iPod's power outlet becomes impossible, since it is occupied? Or am I missing something?

I would love a better solution than the cable, which as noted is not the best sound quality.

jailbreak your ios device. There is a tweak that allows you to disable the accessory connected screen and gives you access to the ipod functions when connected usb.

If you want to charge and have audio control, you first have to have it plugged in then summon via blue toothe. I do this with pandora and my Iphone all the time, however my 80gig classic doesn't have blue toothe so its usb or aux jack only. I don't know about other phones but that's the way I get around it with my Iphone.
