Default USB2 - installed and quickly uninstalled.

So I ordered my cable for the USB2 mod. It came in today and I literally had this thing complete in 5-7 minutes. Plugged in my iPod and everything was clicking right along. Then I began to notice a scrathy, static-like sound coming through the speakers. I took note of what song was playing and at what time in the song the sound happened. Listened to that same mp3 on my PC and it wasn't there.

Went back out and it only got worse. "USB2 unavailable", she said. Then "media unavailable at this time". Tried an external HDD and a jump drive with similar results. Unhooked it all and even USB1 wouldn't work. Killed the truck, uninstalled USB2, everything is okay.

Found another thread where a Ford dealership denied warranty on a fried Sync unit blaming USB2 for the short. I know many, MANY of you have done this and had zero problems. Trust me I'm not seeking argument, just want fellow owners to be aware that it isn't fail safe (as nothing is).

Where did you get the cable? It may be a place to avoid.
Any evidence of pinching on the cable?

Darkstallion - yes I do have the Sony system. Can't say if that had any impact or not.

Sllydderr - there is a really good write up on the forum with pics where the guy posts a link to the cable he ordered from ebay. I clicked and ordered that exact cable. He hasn't claimed any problems that I know of. Also no, no pinching at all. It's a super easy install and the cable just drops right into the glove box.

Try reversing the usb's. I use usb1 for my ipod in the glove box and the usb port on the dash for my GPS and to charge my phone. I to had trouble with usb2 and my ipod. seems to work just fine now.

Isn't the USB2 already there, you're just installing an extention basically?? How could Ford void a warranty for that??? Not looking for an argument, just asking.
