has anyone ever attempted, or know of anyone who has put rocker switches there? i have a non flow through console and don't have a lot of dash room for switches
i've been toying with the idea of 3D printing a 6 switch rocker panel/cover directly onto it, or even taking the day star organizer and incorporating it into that. something enclosed so the backside of the switches aren't exposed. depending on choice the end product could be wrapped or painted. i dunno i just think it would be something people would seek out since that storage tray is so underutilized.
anyone have any thoughts or opinions? any reason that it couldn't be done (i haven't taken apart the dash the see how hard it would be to run a harness there)?
Do you mean the storage "indentation" on top of the dash? Perhaps upload an image to help understand.
If that location is correct; my first thought is it seems a bit far for rocker switches.
I do know it's easy to remove. 2 bolts (7mm I think). They are under the rubber mat; just pull it up with a thin screwdriver.
There is a bit of room back there; but not sure if it could handle full-size switches and pin connections.
yes that is the area im referring to.
trying to avoid spending a lot of money switching to a flow through console. so far i haven't found any option. the area may be a bit far for switches now that you've said something
Are you just looking for cool stuff to 3-D print? Or do you have actual need for six switches?
There is a cover a guy on ebay sells which will house two full-size switches in the lower-passenger-side storage bin:

to be honest, i have no idea. i havent purchase anything that needs a switch because i dont know where i want the switches
im thinking:
bed lights
front led
reverse led
roll bar
so really 4 switches would be fine. i was thinking i could go passenger cubby and if need the the left of the steering wheel.
i just bought the 3d printer a few months back. making a little extra money on the side printing bit cases for mechanics. rotary files and such mostly for aircvraft mechanics since we need to have all our stuff shadowed and inventoried
