Default Upgrage to 3.73

Ok I need some help! I have a 2010 4x4 screw with the 5.4 and pitiful 3.31 gears. I have 275/65/20 tires on it and a tuner but REALLY want to change my gears to 3.73's. I am sick and tired of this thing down shifting all the time on a slight incline and am considering 35's but obviously not with current gears. Has anyone done this and have a ballpark of what it will cost. Best/worst case scenario? I know when I had my rock crawler with removable third members it was cheap! $100 labor plus $200 per axle for gears/install kit.

should have specified. My trucks 2wd so yeah $1000 per axle. Depending on where you live i've seen guys get both axles done from 1600-2200.

I've been considering chasing to 3.73s but I have 3.55s behind my 5.0. Not much of a change but enough to make a big difference. Lower gears help with acceleration and around town mileage plus not downshifting as much to pull hills on the interstate. The biggest issue I see is the cost, but it's cheaper than a supercharger. I'll wait to see what a tuner does before I take the plunge on either though.

From 3.55, you should go 4.10 or higher to make it worth the money/time.

This isn't something you'll want to pay for again and nobody ever said they wish they had lower numerical gears!

In my 2WD 5.0 I went from 3.31s to 3.73s. It made a huge difference but if I did it again I'd go 4.10s. This is on stock 18" wheels and factory sized tires.

If you're thinking about bigger tires, even 33s or 35s, definitely go 4.10s or more.

Cost me about $1000-1100.
