Default Upgrading. What to look for.

Hey guys/gals.

I'm looking to upgrade trucks with my tax returns. I currently drive an 04 supercab fx4 5.4 that will be turning 200000 miles next week. I was just wondering what to look for and ask when buying a 2010-2014 f150 4x4 and any issues or concerns to look out for when buying. Thanks in advance for the advice and help!

I bought a 2013 STX Scab last spring I've made several changes. This is just me, but here are the things I now consider must haves. Navigation, back-up camera, Stereo upgrade, spray-in bedliner.factory trailer brake controller On a 2013 Ford wouldn't let you add nav and b/u camera to a lower trim model. I didn't want to pay $10,000 more to get an FX4 or Lariat just be be able to have nav and back-up cam, it's work truck. I've added all thiese things after market. I figure I'm literally $10,000 ahead going this way. I don't have all the bells and whistles, but I'm ok with that. If you get a used truck, it should be more economical to get a higher level trim and get more options. IMO

I'm fully planning on buying used. I'm just curious about the differences between if people have had issues with the ecoboosts, revised 5.4s or the 5.0. That and any nav issues or internal issues with any of these trucks to look out for

Exactly. Everyone thinks they have the best engine choice for said reasons and honestly you'll find good/bad on each motor on the forum. Common chassis problems are also covered weekly on this section too.

If you're buying used biggest factor is the history of that particular vehicle. You get lemons from every brand/model so as long as you have a good history you're starting out on solid ground.

Find what suits your budget and good luck!

Your first choice you'll have to make is ecoboost vs 5.0. Don't ask which one you should buy... It turns ugly... Lol

With the 14's being blown out so cheap right now, is there a reason you don't sell your truck and buy a new truck?

LOOK THE TRUCK OVER REAL GOOD BEFORE YOU BUY IT. New or used. Don't ask me why, jus do it. Drive it at all speeds, on all roads available. Make sure there is NOTHING you don't like bout it before purchase!

Now here is REAL advice..

Especially about something you don't like about the truck.. It WILL drive you crazy.... After a while you LOOK for reasons to trade your truck in and justify it.. Lol

That's the thing. I wish I would have gotten sunroof, leather, heated seats, ect when I bought mine. Now I'm looking at all the newer models and I'm not settling for any less than all the bells and whistles. My main thing I'm asking is if anyone has had problems with turbos or the newer 5.4s having plugs break off like the 04 model like I own. I don't wanna be buying special tools to fix something as simple as a plug change.
