Default Ugh...Dealership Issues

I got a call today from the dealer where I got my new F150; turns out when they submitted all the paperwork to Ford Motor Credit/State of Texas/Ford, they submitted the wrong VIN number.

According to all those people, I own a white 2014 King Ranch, but I could swear the truck in my driveway is Tuxedo Black Metallic.

I went down to the dealership today and signed a bunch of paperwork to re-title/correct the issue with Ford/the state, but I'm concerned about the long term ramifications of this.

In addition they were pissed off because the White 2014 King Ranch now can't be titled as new since they'd already issued plates in my name, and as a result the truck isn't eligible for Ford Factory Rebates; the finance guy speculated it was a 7-10k mishap.

Great dealership to work with, but I have a feeling this is going to be an extremely painful innocent mistake.

What dealer is this? I might have to give them a buzz about a white King Ranch.

Not your fault it's their mess up. If your truck wasn't considered sold talk them into giving you the king ranch since they screwed themselves out of that "new" truck.

There won't be any long term problems for you after the paper work is corrected. Now, the dealer is a different story. I'm not so sure there isn't something they can do to rectify their situation as I'm sure this has happened somewhere else in the past. They just needed someone to cry too, and you where there.

That's all, every bit, on them. Can't imagine how this would have any negative impact on you. If it does, let us know. I haven't ever looked at the paperwork to verify the VIN. Maybe a good thing to do for future purchases. I think you're being a good sport about it, considering it's time out of your day to correct their mishap.

Thanks for the replies gents; the thing that has me most concerned is they already issued the plates for the truck, in my name, on the wrong VIN. Getting sideways with the state sounds like a big-time hassle that isn't easily solved.

They should be able to just make a revision and send you a new registration on the plates you already have, That's how it works in Louisiana any way.

This reminds me of an 8 year old mistake the dmv made on my license, they put the correct address but put the wrong zip code.

The only issue I have is when I go to buy a gun (collector) I always have to produce a separate document with the correct zip.

If the truck was used in the commission of a crime during the time you "owned" it, that could be a little stickier. Sounds like it was sitting on a lot minding its own business. As it is, it looks like you owned it for a very short amount of time and then you sold it, traded it, whatever. Same truck, different color, so insurance rate shouldn't be an issue, nor should taxes paid. Ask the dship or, better yet, DMV what exposure you have. Again, I'd be surprised if it's anything. As someone stated earlier, I'm sure this has happened before, so I would imaging municipalities have a way of dealing with such an occurrence. You have a copy of the paperwork, as does the dship. Of course, the dship would still appear to be somewhat screwed.
