Tuxedo Black Questions
Ok i am thinking about getting a 13 FX4 Ecoboost. I really like the looks of the Black FX4. I hand wash my truck all throughout the summer. In the winter i take the car wash shortcut. I am asking for input from Tuxedo Black owners. Is the black really hard to take care of? Do you see alot of swirl marks? Thank for any input. My second choice is the Sterling Grey..

Retired and loving it!
Black is not a color, it's a career choice..........I'd go with the Sterling if you really like your paint to look better than average ---- or if you want to spend hours making it so with the black.
Tuxedo Black's metal flake is nice, but so is Sterling's:
And, it really takes a nice shine when waxed:

It is a hard color to wash by hand, but it looks awesome once clean. I don't have swirl issues, mainly water drops drying before I actually finish washing and get around to drying the truck. May be just my method of washing though, I'm probably making it harder on myself.

I have no problem washing mine. I use turtle wax ice on it every month to 6 weeks which makes so much easier to clean. Take your time it comes out beautiful. Nothing beats a black truck. My next color choice would have been the redish color.

My truck is tuxedo black. It scratches very easily, but you will be hard pressed to find a nicer color out there right now. If you regularly wash and wax the truck, go for it. I have friends in auto body that are spraying it on custom hot rods. It is sweet.

If you so choose to go the tux black route, buy yourself a California duster. It's about 30$ and as long as your truck doesn't get wet (rain, puddles, dew) a quick dust will keep that just clean shine for a long time. They are well worth the money.

Coming from a true car guy who's owned FAR TOO MANY black vehicles over my years of driving and is BEYOND **** when it comes to car care, black is by far the most difficult color to maintain....exponentially more difficult than ANY other color! The strategy involved when caring for that color is exhausting. Unless I were to pick up another Grand National, I will NEVER own a black vehicle again! Careful OP, the "shortcut" route you speak up will create unimaginable headaches comes Summer time! Here's our truck after a 3 hour wash and quick detail from earlier today (please excuse the poor iPhone quality). I still obviously enjoy dark(er) colors, but the maintenance of this one is FAR easier! Good luck!

I have some swirl marks. If you use high quality stuff you wont. I cheaped out on some micro fiber rags one time. I have swirl mark remover just need to do it. Its hard work though since its such a big vehicle. But I wash with Ice and wax with ICE and its shines!!! Love it when its clean for sure! Just hate how my truck has to be the one the idiots park next too. So many door dings
